When it comes to summer drinks, borgoña was a non-negotiable. This Chilean strawberry wine is often compared to sangria, as it is particularly sweet and refreshing. No matter the backlash I might receive, I truly enjoy plopping some ice cubes in red wine on a hot summer day, so I knew I’d enjoy this chilled strawberry wine on a hot day. If you’re looking for a drink that is easy to make in large quantities and generally well-liked by partygoers, borgoña is exactly the beverage you’ve been looking for. Heck, even if you’re just looking for a simple wine for one to enjoy on a hot summer afternoon, borgoña is great for you, too! This recipe really is perfect for any occasion.

Oftentimes, I find myself caught between a fun cocktail and a sure glass of wine. Borgoña really is the best of both worlds. This recipe was submitted by Fernanda from Chile, and she tells us that so many people enjoy this drink because the strawberries add something special. Why drink regular red wine when this strawberry goodness exists?

In Chile, borgoña is made during homeland holidays in September and strawberry season in the summer months. However, you can find this beloved favorite at traditional bars throughout the year, too. Fernanda’s grandmother makes it during family parties, and her father usually prepares it on his birthday, so Fernanda associates this lovely wine with fond familial memories. This is likely true of many Chilean families, as Fernanda tells us that borgoña possesses a quintessential Chilean taste.

This drink only consists of strawberries, sugar, and red wine, which is why I highly recommend it if you’re hosting a get-together. It’s simple to make with accessible ingredients, and I loved its pure strawberry flavor. I would definitely opt for this strawberry refreshment over regular wine any day, and I hope you feel the same after taking that first heavenly sip of your borgoña!
