Everyone knows hot dogs are my favorite food group. I think it’s a beautiful blank canvas ready for endless topping possibilities. So I wondered, if you had a plain ol’ hot dog in a plain ol’ bun, what do hot dog lovers around the world use as toppings? I asked 10 people from 10 countries and here is what they said:
BRAZIL
“Top it with a mixture of mayo, canned sweet corn and peas, then some grated cheese, and the last layer is stick potatoes. It’s a very crunchy bite.”

“The hot dog toppings that we wanted to share with you are reminiscent of Bermudian fish chowder. So we top the hot dog with salted cod, tomato sauce, [cherry] peppers, and avocado. And then we put it all on a bun with mayonnaise. Enjoy!”

“My favorite bakery purchase for lunch as a teenager was what we call the ‘hot dog à la française’. Instead of a hot dog bun, we use a baguette to which we add grainy mustard, bechamel, and emmental cheese. Then we put all this under the broiler until it becomes this cheesy, melty goodness. It’s pretty indulgent.”
