Asta Caplan is a visual artist born and trained in Finland. By her parents she was introduced early on to the multiple media she still works in; ranging from watercolor and soft pastel to oil paint and print making as well as sculpture. She worked and lived in Munich, Germany, until recently and has now relocated to Florida. Her works have been represented and exhibited by galleries internationally since her graduation from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2010.
The interiors in her paintings are often an imaginary space with real elements collected from several locations in her sketches and photographs. They are paintings of the space in between: composed windows to ephemeral: with an invitation to step in and contemplate in slow time. Her paintings of interiors, giant flowers and composed snapshot still lives are like a dream one is given an opportunity to stroll into, a space of improbable and to behold the time standing still. In paintings the subjects reach beyond their natural size and lifetime allowing us to stretch the experience of beauty from a sparkling passing moment to a life time.
In this serene and curious space she wishes her audience to feel a moment of equilibrium as well as the delight we can experience in the presence of beauty.
