Lizzie’s creative use of instant noodles gave birth to this hack for a way quicker version of French onion soup that just as delicious as the real deal!

French Onion Soup Ramen Bake is a creative American comfort food mashup that transforms humble instant noodles into a rich, oven-baked classic. Inspired by traditional French onion soup flavors, this easy casserole uses two blocks of Maruchan ramen—without the seasoning packets—to create a savory, cheesy ramen bake that’s perfect for busy weeknights.

This inspired ramen recipe combines one can of French onion soup, one can of beef consommé, and half a can of water poured directly over the dry ramen blocks in an oven-safe dish. Butter is added both between and around the noodles, infusing the dish with richness as it bakes. Covered with foil and baked at 360°F for 20 minutes, the instant ramen softens and absorbs the deep onion-beef broth flavor.

After a quick stir and an additional bake, the magic happens: a generous layer of shredded Gruyère melts over the top, creating that signature French onion soup finish. The cheese bubbles and browns in the oven, forming a gooey, golden crust that elevates inexpensive instant noodles into a crave-worthy baked ramen casserole.

French Onion Soup Ramen Bake showcases the creative use of instant noodles in American kitchens. It’s a budget-friendly dinner idea, an easy comfort food recipe, and a fun twist on classic ramen. With minimal ingredients and maximum flavor, this cheesy ramen bake proves that pantry staples can become something truly special. Add fresh black pepper before serving and enjoy this savory, melty, oven-baked noodle dish.

Servings 2

Ingredients

  • 2 blocks Maruchan ramen no flavor packets
  • 1 can French onion soup
  • 1 can beef consume soup
  • ½ can water
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 8 oz gruyere shredded

Instructions

  • Place the ramen blocks side by side in an oven safe baking dish.
  • Pour both containers of soup and half a can of water over the ramen blocks.
  • Slice the butter and place 2 tbsp on top of the ramen blocks, and 2 tbsp around the ramen blocks. Cover with foil and bake at 360℉ for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the foil, use a fork to break the ramen apart, and stir. If the ramen noodles look dry after stirring, or the dish doesn't look soupy enough for your liking, add a little more water (about ½ cup). Place the dish back into the oven uncovered for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove again, sprinkle with ¾ of the cheese and return to the oven set to broil for 5-10 minutes till the cheese is nice and melty.
  • Dish up the french onion soup ramen, add some fresh black pepper, the rest of the cheese and enjoy!
