Appelbeignets

Ingredients

  • 4-5 apples a bit firm, sweet and not too tart so not a granny smith
  • 200 g flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • cup beer a light beer like heineken, or sparkling water or 7-up if you don’t want to use beer
  • oil for frying
  • powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  • Peel the apples and core them.
  • Then slice each apple (1 cm thick - 0.5 inch) in such a way that it leaves a round hole in the middle.
  • Dry the apples off a bit on a paper towel.
  • Mix the flour and salt together and whisk in the beer until you have a smooth batter.
  • The temperature of the oil (sunflower or similar) needs to be 180℃ (or 355℉).
  • Fully coat the apple slice in the batter and fish them out with the back of a regular spoon, or a wooden spoon.
  • Let the excess batter drip off a bit and carefully lower them in the oil. Fry the apple for approximately 4-5 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  • Let cool for a minute at least to prevent burning your mouth. Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
