When it comes to foods from Malaysia, while I’ve cooked many on the channel (and LOVED them all), when I thought about ordering from a Malaysian restaurant I realized I had no idea where to begin. It’s a beautiful country with a diverse and stunning cuisine, so why don’t I ever think to order Malaysian food when it comes time for a delivery night? With the help of my subscribers, I was able to order from a Malaysian restaurant like a pro. And using this guide, now you can too!

1. Roti Canai

“It’s a flatbread that is pan fried and served with lentil curry. As a Malaysian, roti canai has always been a part of my life. It is served almost everywhere. It has always been cheap, readily available, and delicious.” – Arfan

2. Chicken Satay

“You may have had other satay or meat skewers before, but the Malaysian satay has its own unique twist. It’s packed with lemongrass, sweetened with honey, and charred to perfection over coals. The highlight for me is the chunky peanut sauce.” – Amanda

3. Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken

“It may seem simple, but this beloved dish is far from basic. This is the quintessential Malaysian dish, loved by all. It is a food of the people.” – Amanda

4. Nasi Kerabu with Kampung Fish

“It’s one of the special delicacies in Malaysia which I think is very underrated.” Razinah

“Nasi Kerabu has a very particular, very unique taste that is very hard to describe. There is no other dish like it, but I can vouch for its deliciousness!” – Arfan

5. Sarawak Laksa

“It’s very famous with the story of Anthony Bourdain. It’s not your typical laksa. We have so many different types of laksa here in Malaysia, every state has a different type.” – Razinah

6. Kang Kung with Belacan

“It is a favorite Malaysian vegetable dish that’s packed with flavor. Kang kung refers to water spinach that has been stir fried with belacan, a local fermented shrimp paste. I love the bold flavors of belacan which pairs perfectly with the fresh, slightly crunchy texture of the kang kung.” – Amanda

Everything I ordered was delicious and like nothing I’ve ever tasted before! My subscribers also recommended trying Curry Puff, Murtabak Pancake, Assam Pedas with Flounder, Stinky Beans with Shrimp (Petai), Penang Assam Laksa , Char Kueh Teow with Shrimp, and Mee Goreng. So next time you’re having a delivery night, why not give Malaysian food a try? You won’t be disappointed, I guarantee!

Palestine is so much more than what we’ve all been hearing about recently in the news. It is a beautiful culture with an incredibly diverse cuisine. With the help of my subscribers of Palestinian descent, I was able to learn more about the beauty of  Palestinian culture what this vibrant cuisine is made up of.
