When Nabila submitted this iconic street food, I was stoked to include it in this Instant Noodles episode! Indonesian Indomie Nyemek is a popular street food twist on instant noodles, known for its rich, soupy, and flavorful texture. Nyemek refers to a dish that is neither too soupy nor too dry—offering the perfect balance of broth and seasoning. This variation of Indomie goreng (fried Indomie) is a favorite among food lovers who crave something comforting and spicy.

To make Indomie Nyemek, cooked Indomie noodles are simmered with a small amount of water, allowing the broth to thicken and coat the noodles. Ingredients like eggs, chicken, meatballs, sausages, and vegetables such as cabbage or scallions are often added for extra flavor. The dish is then enhanced with seasonings, including sweet soy sauce, chili, and garlic, creating a savory and slightly spicy taste.

This dish is widely enjoyed across Indonesia, especially as a late-night snack or street food delight. Food vendors often customize it based on customer preferences, adding toppings like cheese, corned beef, or crispy shallots. Its easy preparation and bold flavors make Indomie Nyemek a must-try dish for instant noodle enthusiasts. Whether homemade or from a street vendor, this dish delivers an unbeatable taste of Indonesia’s culinary creativity.
